The Clear Creek Watershed Foundation is partnering with Adams County Open Space to engage stakeholders and develop a strategy for the revitalization of the 7-mile corridor along Clear Creek in Adams County. The landscape along lower Clear Creek was impacted as rich gravel deposits in the floodplain were mined and then backfilled with the metro area’s accumulated solid waste, and a network of highways, rail lines, and freight yards crisscrossed the corridor.
Portions of this area remain blighted and scarred, but there are also many beautiful natural areas as well. An Adams County Open Space Clear Creek Corridor Master Plan effort is in the works. Eventually, the Master Plan will provide a roadmap for trail corridor improvement and restoration projects. The vision for this 7-mile corridor is to restore and create creek side access passages and parks where the local community may enjoy habitat viewing while being educated via interpretive signage about the native fish, bird, and wildlife species in the area.
